Mutual Exhange
All of the Association’s tenants can exchange (swap) their house with another Association tenant or the tenant of another Registered Social Landlord, as long as the tenant has a Scottish Secure Tenancy. If you are interested in a mutual exchange you can add your name to the Associations mutual exchange register or register with HomeSwapper.
Home Swapper
HomeSwapper is a national online mutual exchange service. Because the Association is a member, all you need to do is visit https://www.homeswapper.co.uk/ and register. If you would like help to do this, please call into the office or contact your Housing Officer.
The Home Swapper website hosts a large number of people wishing to swap their properties and allows you to advertise your own home for exchange. In addition to this, many people find swaps through other websites, social media, other personal adverisements or through friends and family.
We also maintain a Mutual Exchange Register. This is currently being updated. If you wish to be added to this register or enquire about any of the listed properties, please contact enquiries@rsha.org.uk or call us on 01786 841 101.
Applying for a Mutual Exchange
If you have already found somebody you wish to swap with, please complete the appropriate forms and return them to us. We will then carry out the necessary checks and advise whether the swap can go ahead. You must not move home until the application has been approved in writing and you have been issued with the tenancy agreement for your new property.
If you no longer wish to live in your tenancy but would like a member of your household to stay on in the house and become the tenant, you can apply to assign your tenancy to them.
You must always ask our permission to do this. The assigned person must be at least 16 years old and must have been living in the tenancy with you for a minimum period of 12 months and you must have notified us when they moved in.
If you wish to make someone living with you a joint tenant, you must complete an application for joint tenancy.
The person you wish to become a joint tenant must be at least 16 years old and must have been living in the tenancy with you for a minimum period of 12 months and you must have notified us when they moved in.
There are additional conditions which must also be met before an assignation or application for joint tenancy will be agreed. For more information about assigning or transferring tenancies please contact your Housing Off
